How many prophecies did Jesus fulfill?
https://www.gotquestions.org/prophecies-of-Jesus.html

The story of Jesus saturates the metanarrative of the Bible, and prophecies of His first advent are found throughout the Old Testament. Allusions to Him also come up in micro ways, as many people and events hint at the work He would accomplish. One scholar, J. Barton Payne, has found as many as 574 verses in the Old Testament that somehow point to or describe or reference the coming Messiah. Alfred Edersheim found 456 Old Testament verses referring to the Messiah or His times. Conservatively, Jesus fulfilled at least 300 prophecies in His earthly ministry.

So, the question of how many prophecies Jesus fulfilled is difficult to answer with precision. Should we count only direct messianic prophecies? Do we count repeated prophecies twice? How about allusions and indirect references to the ministry of Christ? And what about types? A type is a prophetic symbol: a person or thing in the Old Testament that foreshadows a person or thing in the New Testament. So, while Isaiah prophesies the Lord will offer good news for the brokenhearted (Isaiah 61:1), Boaz lives this out, acting as a type of Christ (Ruth 4:1-11).

Below is an attempt to list the types and prophecies given in the Old and New Testaments that Jesus has fulfilled. Undoubtedly, it is not complete. But that's one of the great things about the Bible - the more you read it, the more you see.

Prophecy Types (9)
1. Type: Adam is a type of Christ because both their actions affected a great many people.

Given: Genesis 3:17-19
3:17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat from it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. 3:18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. 3:19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."

Fulfilled: Romans 5:14 - Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
2. Type: Jesus is the fulfillment of the Passover Lamb.

Given: Exodus 12:1-11
The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread
12:1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 12:2 "This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. 12:3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. 12:4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. 12:5 The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 12:6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 12:7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 12:8 That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. 12:9 Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire - with the head, legs and internal organs. 12:10 Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. 12:11 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord's Passover.

Fulfilled: John 1:29-36
John Testifies About Jesus
1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 1:30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' 1:31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel." 1:32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 1:33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' 1:34 I have seen and I testify that this is God's Chosen One."
John's Disciples Follow Jesus
1:35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 1:36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
3. Type: The rock that produced water for Israel points toward Jesus and the living water.

Given: Exodus 17:6 - I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Fulfilled: John 4:10 - Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."

Fulfilled: 1 Corinthians 10:3-4 - 10:3 They all ate the same spiritual food 10:4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
4. Type: The tabernacle where God dwelt among the Israelites is a type of Jesus, God with us.

Given: Exodus 25:8 - "Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.

Given: Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Given: Isaiah 8:8, 10 - 8:8 and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it, passing through it and reaching up to the neck. Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land, Immanuel!" 8:9 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered! Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Prepare for battle, and be shattered! 8:10 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.

Fulfilled: Matthew 1:21-23 - 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." 1:22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 1:23 "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us").

Fulfilled: John 1:14 - The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Fulfilled: John 14:8-11 - 14:8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." 14:9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 14:10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 14:11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.
5. Type: The feast of unleavened bread represents the purity of Jesus;
Jesus' burial is like a kernel in the ground, waiting to burst forth in life.

Given: Leviticus 23:6 - On the fifteenth day of that month the Lord's Festival of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast.

Fulfilled: 1 Peter 2:22 - "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."
6. Type: The feast of first fruits represents Jesus as the first fruit from the dead.

Given: Leviticus 23:10 - Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest.

Fulfilled: 1 Corinthians 15:20 - But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
7. Type: Those who looked up at the snake on a pole were saved.
Those who "look up" at Jesus on the cross are saved.

Given: Numbers 21:8-9 - 21:8 The Lord said to Moses, "Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live." 21:9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

Fulfilled: John 3:14-15 - 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 3:15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him."
8. Type: Boaz is a type of Christ the redeemer.

Given: Ruth 4:1-11 - 4:1 Meanwhile Boaz went up to the town gate and sat down there just as the guardian-redeemer he had mentioned came along. Boaz said, "Come over here, my friend, and sit down." So he went over and sat down. 4:2 Boaz took ten of the elders of the town and said, "Sit here," and they did so. 4:3 Then he said to the guardian-redeemer, "Naomi, who has come back from Moab, is selling the piece of land that belonged to our relative Elimelek. 4:4 I thought I should bring the matter to your attention and suggest that you buy it in the presence of these seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, do so. But if you will not, tell me, so I will know. For no one has the right to do it except you, and I am next in line." "I will redeem it," he said. 4:5 Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the land from Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, the dead man's widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property." 4:6 At this, the guardian-redeemer said, "Then I cannot redeem it because I might endanger my own estate. You redeem it yourself. I cannot do it." 4:7 (Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel.) 4:8 So the guardian-redeemer said to Boaz, "Buy it yourself." And he removed his sandal. 4:9 Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, "Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelek, Kilion and Mahlon. 4:10 I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon's widow, as my wife, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property, so that his name will not disappear from among his family or from his hometown. Today you are witnesses!" 4:11 Then the elders and all the people at the gate said, "We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the family of Israel. May you have standing in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

Given: Ezekiel 16:8 - Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.

Fulfilled: Galatians 3:13 - Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."

Fulfilled: Galatians 4:5 - to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

Fulfilled: Colossians 1:14 - in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
9. Type: Jonah was in the fish for three days. Jesus' body was in the grave for three days.

Given: Jonah 1:17 - Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Fulfilled: Matthew 12:40 - For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Messianic Prophecies (103)

Jesus is this seed, and He crushed Satan at the cross.

Given: Genesis 3:14-15 - 3:14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! Fulfilled: Matthew 1:1 - This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:

I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 13:14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

Fulfilled: Luke 1:33 - and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end."

Fulfilled: Luke 3:23-34 - 3:23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, 3:24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melki, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, 3:25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, 3:26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josek, the son of Joda, 3:27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, 3:28 the son of Melki, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, 3:29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, 3:30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, 3:31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, 3:32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, 3:33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, 3:34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

Given: Genesis 49:10 - The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.

Fulfilled: Matthew 1:1-2 - 1:1 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: 1:2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

6. The Jews were not to keep the Passover lamb overnight.
Jesus was buried the day He died.

Given: Exodus 12:10 - Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it.

Given: Numbers 9:12 - They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.

Fulfilled: John 19:38-42 - The Burial of Jesus
19:38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away. 19:39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. 19:40 Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 19:41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 19:42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
7. The Jews were not to break the bones of the Passover lamb.

Given: Exodus 12:46 - "It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.

Given: Numbers 9:12 - They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.

Fulfilled: John 19:31-36 - 19:31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 19:32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. 19:33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 19:34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 19:35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken,"
8. The Jews were to devote the firstborn males to God.
Jesus is Mary's firstborn male; He is also the "firstborn" over creation and the "firstborn" of the dead.

Given: Exodus 13:2 - "Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal."

Given: Numbers 3:13 - for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. They are to be mine. I am the Lord."

Given: Numbers 8:17 - Every firstborn male in Israel, whether human or animal, is mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set them apart for myself.

Fulfilled: Luke 2:7 - and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Luke 2:23 - (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord",

Fulfilled: Colossians 1:15-18 - The Supremacy of the Son of God
1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 1:16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
9. Moses promised another prophet like him would come.
Jesus is that prophet.

Given: Deuteronomy 18:15 - The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.

Given: Deuteronomy 18-19
Deuteronomy 18
Offerings for Priests and Levites
18:1 The Levitical priests - indeed, the whole tribe of Levi-are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the food offerings presented to the Lord, for that is their inheritance. 18:2 They shall have no inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance, as he promised them. 18:3 This is the share due the priests from the people who sacrifice a bull or a sheep: the shoulder, the internal organs and the meat from the head. 18:4 You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep, 18:5 for the Lord your God has chosen them and their descendants out of all your tribes to stand and minister in the Lord's name always. 18:6 If a Levite moves from one of your towns anywhere in Israel where he is living, and comes in all earnestness to the place the Lord will choose, 18:7 he may minister in the name of the Lord his God like all his fellow Levites who serve there in the presence of the Lord. 18:8 He is to share equally in their benefits, even though he has received money from the sale of family possessions.
Occult Practices
18:9 When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 18:10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 18:11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 18:12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 18:13 You must be blameless before the Lord your God.
The Prophet
18:14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so. 18:15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 18:16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die." 18:17 The Lord said to me: "What they say is good. 18:18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 18:19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 18:20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death." 18:21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
Deuteronomy 19
Cities of Refuge
19:1 When the Lord your God has destroyed the nations whose land he is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their towns and houses, 19:2 then set aside for yourselves three cities in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess. 19:3 Determine the distances involved and divide into three parts the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, so that a person who kills someone may flee for refuge to one of these cities. 19:4 This is the rule concerning anyone who kills a person and flees there for safety-anyone who kills a neighbor unintentionally, without malice aforethought. 19:5 For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life. 19:6 Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue him in a rage, overtake him if the distance is too great, and kill him even though he is not deserving of death, since he did it to his neighbor without malice aforethought. 19:7 This is why I command you to set aside for yourselves three cities. 19:8 If the Lord your God enlarges your territory, as he promised on oath to your ancestors, and gives you the whole land he promised them, 19:9 because you carefully follow all these laws I command you today-to love the Lord your God and to walk always in obedience to him - then you are to set aside three more cities. 19:10 Do this so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land, which the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance, and so that you will not be guilty of bloodshed. 19:11 But if out of hate someone lies in wait, assaults and kills a neighbor, and then flees to one of these cities, 19:12 the killer shall be sent for by the town elders, be brought back from the city, and be handed over to the avenger of blood to die. 19:13 Show no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you. 19:14 Do not move your neighbor's boundary stone set up by your predecessors in the inheritance you receive in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess.
Witnesses
19:15 One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offense they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. 19:16 If a malicious witness takes the stand to accuse someone of a crime, 19:17 the two people involved in the dispute must stand in the presence of the Lord before the priests and the judges who are in office at the time. 19:18 The judges must make a thorough investigation, and if the witness proves to be a liar, giving false testimony against a fellow Israelite, 19:19 then do to the false witness as that witness intended to do to the other party. You must purge the evil from among you. 19:20 The rest of the people will hear of this and be afraid, and never again will such an evil thing be done among you. 19:21 Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Fulfilled: Matthew 21:11 - The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."

Fulfilled: Luke 7:16 - They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."

Fulfilled: Luke 24:19 - "What things?" he asked. "About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.

Fulfilled: John 6:14 - After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."

Fulfilled: John 7:40 - On hearing his words, some of the people said, "Surely this man is the Prophet."
10. God told the Jews to never leave the body of someone who had been hanged overnight.
Jesus was buried the day He died.

Given: Deuteronomy 21:23 - you must not leave the body hanging on the pole overnight. Be sure to bury it that same day, because anyone who is hung on a pole is under God's curse. You must not desecrate the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

Fulfilled: Galatians 3:13 - Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."
11. The word of God will be in hearts and mouths.

The Empty Tomb
20:1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 20:2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!" 20:3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 20:4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 20:5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 20:6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 20:7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus' head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 20:8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 20:9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 20:10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
20:11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 20:12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. 20:13 They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?" "They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." 20:14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. 20:15 He asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him." 20:16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means "Teacher"). 20:17 Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" 20:18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 20:21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 20:23 If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
Jesus Appears to Thomas
20:24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 20:25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 20:27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." 20:28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" 20:29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!" 27:41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 27:42 "He saved others," they said, "but he can'’t save himself! He's the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 27:43 He trusts in God. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.'

Fulfilled: Hebrews 7:11-28
Jesus Like Melchizedek
7:11 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood - and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood - why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 7:12 For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. 7:13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 7:14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. 7:15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 7:16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 7:17 For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." 7:18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. 7:20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 7:21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: 'You are a priest forever.'" 7:22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant. 7:23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 7:24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 7:25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. 7:26 Such a high priest truly meets our need - one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 7:27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 7:28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

Fulfilled: Hebrews 8:1-2
The High Priest of a New Covenant
8:1 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 8:2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.

As they untied it, 11:5 some people standing there asked, "What are you doing, untying that colt?" 11:6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 11:7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 11:8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 11:9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" 11:10 "Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

Fulfilled: Matthew 26:14-15 - 26:14 Then one of the Twelve - the one called Judas Iscariot - went to the chief priests 26:15 and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.

Fulfilled: Matthew 27:3 - When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.

Fulfilled: Matthew 27:6-10 - 27:6 The chief priests picked up the coins and said, "It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money." 27:7 So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. 27:8 That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 27:9 Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: "They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel, 27:10 and they used them to buy the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me."

Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. 3:3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,

He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 11:16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 11:17 And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.'" 11:18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. 11:19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city.

Fulfilled: John 2:13-16
Jesus Clears the Temple Courts
2:13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2:14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 2:15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 2:16 To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a market!"

(which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"). 15:35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, "Listen, he's calling Elijah." 15:36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down," he said. 15:37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

Peter did so at the trial before Caiaphas.

Given: Matthew 26:33-34 - 26:33 Peter replied, "Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will." 26:34 "Truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times."

Fulfilled: Matthew 26:69-75
Peter Disowns Jesus
26:69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said. 26:70 But he denied it before them all. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said. 26:71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." 26:72 He denied it again, with an oath: "I don't know the man!" 26:73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away." 26:74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. 26:75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.
99. Jesus said He will be handed over, killed, and rise again on the third day.

Given: Mark 9:30-31 - 19:30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 19:31 because he was teaching his disciples. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 10:34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise."

Chapter 18
Jesus Arrested
18:1 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it. 18:2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. 18:3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. 18:4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" 18:5 "Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 18:6 When Jesus said, "I am he," they drew back and fell to the ground. 18:7 Again he asked them, "Who is it you want?" "Jesus of Nazareth," they said. 18:8 Jesus answered, "I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go." 18:9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: "I have not lost one of those you gave me." 18:10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) 18:11 Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?" Jesus Taken To Annas
18:12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him 18:13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 18:14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.
Peter's First Denial
18:15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard, 18:16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. 18:17 "You aren't one of this man's disciples too, are you?" she asked Peter. He replied, "I am not." 18:18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.
The High Priest Questions Jesus
18:19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. 18:20 "I have spoken openly to the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 18:21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said." 18:22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. "Is this the way you answer the high priest?" he demanded. 18:23 "If I said something wrong," Jesus replied, "testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?" 18:24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
Peter's Second and Third Denials
18:25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, "You aren't one of his disciples too, are you?" He denied it, saying, "I am not." 18:26 One of the high priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, "Didn't I see you with him in the garden?" 18:27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.
Jesus Before Pilate
18:28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 18:29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, "What charges are you bringing against this man?" 18:30 "If he were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you." 18:31 Pilate said, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." "But we have no right to execute anyone," they objected. 18:32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die. 18:33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" 18:34 "Is that your own idea," Jesus asked, "or did others talk to you about me?" 18:35 "Am I a Jew?" Pilate replied. "Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?" 18:36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place." 18:37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." 18:38 "What is truth?" retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him. 18:39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release 'the king of the Jews'?" 18:40 They shouted back, "No, not him! Give us Barabbas!" Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.

Chapter 19
Jesus Sentenced to Be Crucified
19:1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 19:2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 19:3 and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they slapped him in the face. 19:4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, "Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him." 19:5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, "Here is the man!" 19:6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify! Crucify!" But Pilate answered, "You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him." 19:7 The Jewish leaders insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God." 19:8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 19:9 and he went back inside the palace. "Where do you come from?" he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. 19:10 "Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?" 19:11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin." 19:12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, "If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar." 19:13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge's seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha). 19:14 It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews. 19:15 But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered. 19:16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.
The Crucifixion of Jesus
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 19:17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 19:18 There they crucified him, and with him two others -- one on each side and Jesus in the middle. 19:19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews". 19:20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 19:21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews." 19:22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written." 19:23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 19:24 "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, "They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment." So this is what the soldiers did. 19:25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 19:26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, "Woman, here is your son," 19:27 and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
The Death of Jesus
19:28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." 19:29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. 19:31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. 19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," 19:37 and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
The Burial of Jesus

Chapter 20
Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" 20:18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
20:19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 20:20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
Stop doubting and believe." 20:28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" 20:29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." The Purpose of John's Gospel 20:30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 20:31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
100. Jesus said He will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, killed, and rise again three days later.

19:18 There they crucified him, and with him two others - one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," 19:37 and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
The Burial of Jesus

Chapter 20
The Purpose of John's Gospel
20:30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 20:31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

Summary of Messianic Prophecies
Type 2. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Passover Lamb

Given: Exodus 12:1-11 - 12:1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 12:2 "This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year.

Fulfilled: John 1:29-36 - 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

The Lord is with you." 1:29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 1:30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 1:31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 1:32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 1:33 and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end." 1:34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 14:11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?" 18:12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus.

19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," 19:37 and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
The Burial of Jesus

Chapter 20

Given: Mark 10:32-34 - 10:32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 10:33 "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law.

Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?" 18:12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus.

19:18 There they crucified him, and with him two others - one on each side and Jesus in the middle. 19:19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross.
With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away. 19:39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night.

103. Jesus said He will rebuild the "temple" (His body) after three days.
He rose from the dead after three days.

Given: John 2:18-22 - 18 The Jews then responded to him, "What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?" 19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days." 20 They replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

Fulfilled: Acts 10:40 - but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.

Fulfilled: 1 Corinthians 15:4 - that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53

  1. Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
  2. He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
  3. He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

  4. Surely he took up our pain
          and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
          stricken by him, and afflicted.
  5. But he was pierced for our transgressions,
          he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
  6. We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
          each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
          the iniquity of us all.

  7. He was oppressed and afflicted,
          yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
  8. By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
          For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished.
  9. He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.

  10. Yet it was the Lord's will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
  11. After he has suffered,
          he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
  12. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

Prophecy
When Will The Messiah Come?

Was Jesus' Arrival Accurately Predicted in the Bible?
https://reasons.org/explore/publications/articles/was-jesus-s-arrival-accurately-predicted-in-the-bible

In 538 BC, the angel Gabriel gave Daniel a prophecy pinpointing when the Messiah would arrive. "Know and understand this," Gabriel told him (Daniel 9:25). While Daniel may have understood it, somewhere along the way that insight has been lost. Old Testament scholars have long been debating the prophecy's meaning, but one scholar, Harold Hoehner, had a particularly astounding interpretation.

While in Babylon, Daniel read the Scriptures, learning that Jeremiah had foretold both the Babylonian captivity and the Israelites' return to their homeland after 70 years. In response, Daniel confessed the sins of the nation in prayer, inciting the angel Gabriel to visit and deliver this message:

Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven 'sevens,' and sixty-two 'sevens.' It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. After the sixty-two 'sevens,' the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.

Breaking Down the Daniel Prophecy

In taking a closer look at the Daniel passage, one thing is clear: it is about the Messiah. We see that the term "Messiah," or "Anointed One," is capitalized. It is also clear that a formula of sorts is provided to calculate when the Messiah will appear. The difficulties come in interpreting the formula. One such difficulty is determining the meaning of "weeks," which is used in a number of translations. (NIV uses the term "sevens" instead of "weeks.") In ancient Hebrew, "weeks" had a number of meanings, which scholars can determine by the context. The context in the Daniel passage shows that "weeks" means "seven units." Using this definition, we can calculate when the Messiah will arrive: (7 x 7) + (62 x 7) = 49 + 434 = 483 years.

The prophecy further says that after the Messiah arrives, he will be "put to death and will have nothing." The word "after" is very important. After the Messiah arrives, he will be put to death. Jesus' crucifixion fulfills that prophecy.

We now know that the Messiah would arrive 483 years in the future. But does the prophecy specify a beginning date? The prophecy tells us: "From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem." So, who ordered this decree to restore Jerusalem, and when was it ordered? There are several possibilities, but the decree that best fits the evidence was made by the Persian king Artaxerxes to Nehemiah on March 5 of 444 BC (Nehemiah 2:1-8). (In this article, a number of biblical dates are used, all of which have been under debate by scholars for hundreds of years. Harold Hoehner makes a strong case for each of the dates. For those details, please refer to Hoehner's book Chronological Aspects of the Life of Christ.)

Before we can make some calculations, we need to know how Daniel's civilization counted time - by a solar year or a lunar year. A solar year has 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds, or 365.2422 days. A lunar year has exactly 360 days: 12 months of 30 days. [A lunar year has 12 rotation periods, or lunar months, which equal 354.367 Earth days (12 x 29.53059). However, ancient peoples rounded off the lunar month to 30 days. Thus, their lunar year would equal 360 days (30 days x 12).] Since the lunar year was commonly used in ancient biblical times, it makes the most sense to use the lunar year in calculations.

We must also decide how to define the arrival of the Messiah. Do we use Jesus' birthdate, the date he began his ministry, the date of his crucifixion, or some other date? The date that many scholars have accepted as the time of the Messiah's arrival is Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The reason for choosing this date is that this is when Jesus publicly declared that he was the Messiah. Before then, he told only select people, like his disciples, and he often reminded them to keep his identity secret. History chronologists have estimated that Jesus' triumphal entry fell on Monday, March 30, AD 33.

Calculating Gabriel's Formula

Now we're ready to do some math to determine if Gabriel did in fact predict Jesus' arrival. We'll start by determining how many days are in 483 lunar years: 360 x 483 = 173,880 days. Next, we'll convert those days back into solar years: 173,880 ÷ 365.2422 = 476.068 years. After converting the decimal part (0.068) to days (0.068 x 365.2422 = 24.8 days), the time prophesized for the Messiah to arrive comes out to be 476 years and 25 days.

Adding this number to March 5, 444 BC - the date on which the decree to rebuild Jerusalem was issued - brings us to March 30, AD 33, the very day of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Is this match not remarkable? The remarkable accuracy of the predictions in the prophecy in Daniel [assuming the estimates are correctly interpreted and accurate] supports the truth of the prophecy, which in turn builds confidence in the authority and reliability of the Bible.

Daniel 9:24-26

82. Gabriel tells Daniel when the "Anointed One" will be "cut off."
This is the exact time Jesus is crucified.

Daniel 9:24-26
24 "Seventy 'sevens' are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place. 25 "Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven 'sevens,' and sixty-two 'sevens.' It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two 'sevens,' the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.

Zechariah 9:9 - The Coming of Zion's King

9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
