A meeting at the Taylorsville Skate Park with Mayor Larry Johnson and Physical Facilities Director Blake Schroeder happened unexpectedly. Questions were asked of skaters about how dangerous the current concrete conditions were and skaters gave their opinions. A discussion about using volunteers to patch the concrete problem areas was dismissed due to insurance reasons. The concrete work must be performed by a bonded contractor due to the high liability risks of the City. A plan is being developed to address the safety concerns of the Skate Park.

April 4, 2016

The Skate Park was closed for the first week of April due to graffiti. Taylorsville City has a policy to close the park whenever graffiti occurs.

A meeting on April 4th with Blake Schroeder, Physical Facilities Manager, resulted in an agreement to allow skaters to paint over the graffiti with City approved paint to expedite the opening of the Skate Park. Blake furnished a 5-Gallon bucket of gray paint and several paint rollers and the areas of concern were painted that same afternoon.

Graffiti problems in the future will be forwarded to the Skaters so the problem can be taken care of immediately and the Skate Park can remain open.

The City of Taylorsville has been gracious in providing a safe Skate Park for all to enjoy. It is the skaters' responsibility to take care of this gift.

Improvement Suggestions

  1. The Curved Slide-Rail in the NorthWest corner of the park does not drain water after a rain. Add a drain.

  2. Use the Surveillance Cameras already installed to provide access to the public on how crowded the park is at any given time.
